O.Henry's 154th Birthday

The tradition continues on Tuesday, September 13th, from 7 to 9 pm when Austin's literary community gathers to celebrate the 154th birthday of former Austin resident and prolific short story writer William Sydney Porter (a.k.a. “O. Henry”) AND applaud every Central Texas writer who published a new book in 2015-2016.

The annual event, sponsored by the Brush Square Museums Foundation, is more than a chance to eat, drink, and hang out with notable authors, like special guest Skip Hollandsworth, Texas Monthly executive editor. It's really a fundraiser to help protect the Brush Square museums, the O. Henry Museum and its neighbor the Susanna Dickinson Museum. Skip Hollandsworth will share his insight into Austin’s history at the time of O. Henry’s residence, captured in his new book, The Midnight Assassin: Panic, Scandal, and the Hunt for America's First Serial Killer.

$25 ticket includes drinks, appetizers, and birthday cake. Specialty cocktails by Tipsy Texan. Free parking voucher at the 5th Street/Red River Parking Garage for the first 25 ticket purchasers who request one. Rain or shine, this is going to be epic!

The O. Henry and Susanna Dickinson Museums on Brush Square have been under attack from continuous vandalism and impacted negatively by ever growing park usage. We are fighting for City funding to improve site security and artifact safety to preserve the museums as historic landmarks.
